Songwriting and Artist Development

Here at the studio I'm not just about teaching singing, I'm also passionate about providing an inspiring place for songwriters and performing artists to develop their craft in a wholistic way. Here's how I do it...

Songwriting in Melbourne

I've been writing songs for more than a decade, and it's a HUGE part of my life; I love to share everything I've learned over the years with my students. I can help you write your first song or get past writer's block, I can help you develop more interesting songs by helping you use sophisticated chord structures, I can give you exercises to keep you writing in those in-between times, and I can help you take those lyrics from something that makes you cringe (haven't we all been there!?) to something that shows the richness and subtlety of your true expression. If songwriting is something you'd like to do better or do more of, let me know and I'll help you get to where you want to be.

The studio here in Melbourne is a place I'm really proud of and have been developing since the move here from my studio in the UK. It's important to me that you feel totally at home, inspired and ready to create. Hopefully you'll fall in love with it too!

Whether you're getting ready to play your first couple of open-mic nights, or a touring band gearing up for the long haul, I understand the strains of performing and can help you develop a system for performing at your best. With specially developed warm-ups and tips to keep yourself in the best condition possible, I'm all about helping you make performing as healthy, fun, and easy-peasy as possible.

Welcome to the Songwriter's space in Melbourne!

If there's anything I've learned from being a working performer over the years, it's that it can be TOUGH. I know what it feels like to plan a string of gigs months in advance only to have a disappointing turn-out. I know what it feels like to have your work be under-heard and under-appreciated. And I know what it's like for your hip-pocket when after all those gear purchases, you realise you're not really breaking even. Luckily I've also learned from these experiences and have also experienced great sales, packed-out shows overseas and radio play. It's all in how you approach it. I completed a B.A. Music Industry at RMIT and have spent a whole lot of my life working in events and the music industry. I've worked for a label, more festivals than I can count (including full time at Falls Festival), in radio, and finally as a music journalist. If you have a dream, let me help you make it happen.
